Deployment Engineer, Field
About the role
You're the person who gets the robot to site and makes it work there. You'll build, haul, set up, fix and support our teleoperation systems on construction jobsites, in substations and in industrial plants.
You've built a lot of things with your hands. When something needs to be made, moved or fixed by tomorrow, people call you. We care more about what you've built than what's on your resume.
What you'll do
- Build and assemble robots, exoskeletons, mobile bases, carts, crates and fixtures in our Palo Alto shop
- Load, transport and drive our systems to customer sites, and set them up safely
- Commission and test systems on site, troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and software problems, and fix what you can on the spot
- Fabricate whatever the site needs (brackets, mounts, stands, enclosures, adapters) by welding, machining and 3D printing
- Train customer crews to set up and run the system, and be their first call when something goes wrong
- Log every issue and failure in enough detail that engineering can fix the root cause
- Keep spares, tools and field kits stocked and ready to go
- Work alongside electricians and linemen around energized equipment under customer safety programs, and help write our own site procedures
What we're looking for
- A long track record of building real things. Show us photos.
- Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical skills: hand and power tools, wiring and crimping, a multimeter, and reading drawings and schematics
- Welding (MIG/TIG) and general fabrication
- 3D printing and basic CAD
- Comfortable working on jobsites in PPE, in heat, cold and tight spaces
- A valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and willingness to travel often
- Able to lift and move equipment up to 50 lb, with or without reasonable accommodation
Strong pluses
- A commercial driver's license (CDL), or willingness to get one
- Programming or scripting experience (Python, Linux command line, ROS)
- Electrical trade experience (apprentice, journeyman or similar), or a military technical background
- Field service, commissioning or robotics technician experience
- OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E training or forklift certification
About Mundane
Mundane builds force-feedback teleoperation for dangerous, hands-on work. A skilled tradesperson wears our exoskeleton and works through a robot on site, seeing in stereo and feeling the forces it meets, from outside the hazard. We're starting with energized electrical work and expanding across the trades. Every job also produces the force-rich data that robot learning is missing. We're a small, venture-backed team in Palo Alto.
