Software Engineering Co‑op, Teleoperation
About the role
You’ll build real software for our teleoperation system alongside our software, controls and vision engineers. That means the runtime that connects operator, robot and video, the tools operators and engineers use every day, and the logging that turns every session into force-rich data. Your code will run on real robots in our lab and in front of customers, not in a sandbox.
What you’ll do
- Own a defined project end to end, such as a session logging tool, a system health dashboard, a calibration flow or a data export pipeline
- Build and improve parts of the teleoperation runtime in C++ and Python
- Write tools for operators and engineers: setup, monitoring, session review and debugging
- Help build the logging and data pipeline that captures joint states, forces, video and operator commands
- Write tests, and make the system more reliable when things go wrong
- Debug on real hardware with the controls and hardware teams
- Support demos, and occasionally pilots at customer sites
What we’re looking for
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field (or equivalent demonstrated ability)
- Strong Python and working C++
- Comfortable with Linux, git and the command line
- Projects that run on real hardware, from a research lab, student robotics team or personal work
- Care about clean, tested code. You finish what you start.
Bonus
- ROS/ROS2
- Networking or video streaming (UDP, WebRTC, GStreamer)
- Embedded systems, microcontrollers or motor controllers
- Data tooling for time-series or multimodal data (Parquet, LeRobot, RLDS)
- XR development (Unity, OpenXR)
What you’ll get
- Ownership of software that runs on real robots in front of electricians and linemen
- Mentorship from the engineers who built our teleoperation stack
- A path to a full-time offer
About Mundane
Mundane builds force-feedback teleoperation for dangerous, hands-on work. A skilled tradesperson wears our exoskeleton and works through a robot on site, seeing in stereo and feeling the forces it meets, from outside the hazard. We’re starting with energized electrical work and expanding across the trades. Every job also produces the force-rich data that robot learning is missing. We’re a small, venture-backed team in Palo Alto.
