Technical Product Manager
About the role
Our customers are electricians, linemen and the contractors and utilities they work for. Our engineers build force-feedback teleoperation from the actuator up. You'll connect the two. You'll find out what crews actually need on site, turn it into clear requirements, and make sure what we ship works on a real job, not just in the lab.
This is a technical role. You'll be just as comfortable reading a control loop diagram as standing at a switchgear lineup with a foreman, and you'll make calls on scope, sequencing and tradeoffs that shape what we build next.
What you'll do
- Spend time on customer sites and with operators to understand the tasks, the environment, the safety rules and what gets in the way
- Turn what you learn into requirements, specs and acceptance criteria that engineers can build and test against
- Own the product roadmap across hardware, controls, software and the operator experience, and make tradeoffs between them
- Scope and run pilots with customers: define success criteria, plan the tasks, track results and close the loop with engineering
- Plan releases: decide what ships to the field, when, and with what testing and documentation
- Work with our deployment, human factors and research teams to prioritize fixes and improvements from the field
- Write the product documentation customers need: operating procedures, training materials, and safety and site requirements
- Help shape pricing, packaging and what we offer to each customer segment
What we're looking for
- An engineering degree (mechanical, electrical, robotics, computer science or similar), or equivalent hands-on technical experience
- 3+ years in product management, systems engineering or technical program management on hardware or robotics products
- Experience taking a physical product from prototype into customers' hands
- Strong technical depth. You can follow the engineering conversation and push back when it matters.
- Clear, concise writing. You can turn messy field feedback into a spec someone can build to.
- Comfort on jobsites and in industrial settings, with customers who are skeptical of new technology
- Good judgment about what not to build
Nice to have
- Experience in the electrical trades, utilities, construction or industrial field work
- Familiarity with electrical safety practices (NFPA 70E, OSHA) or work around energized equipment
- Experience with teleoperation, haptics, XR or human-in-the-loop systems
- Experience with safety-critical products and certification
- Experience running paid pilots or proofs of concept with enterprise customers
About Mundane
Mundane builds force-feedback teleoperation for dangerous, hands-on work. A skilled tradesperson wears our exoskeleton and works through a robot on site, seeing in stereo and feeling the forces it meets, from outside the hazard. We're starting with energized electrical work and expanding across the trades. Every job also produces the force-rich data that robot learning is missing. We're a small, venture-backed team in Palo Alto.
